Must-Read about HWRS

Thank you for your interest in babywearing! I am mommy Saori, a smart parenting fanatic, breastfeeding mama and advocate, baby and toddlerwearer, full-time mommy and wifey, nurse entrepreneur, clayista and a home maker. Some situations (like being a no-yaya-ever mom to my kids, a hot mama "wannabe", a direct breastfeeder who loves to go out) made babywearing an important part of my life. And ringslings, esp. our own brand of Quality and Best Collection of Hand Woven Ring Slings, these are my personal favorite kind of baby carrier. Let me personally introduce you to the rocking ringslinging world and I will do all in my power, with my years of hardcore ringslinging experience to guide our valued clients in the wonderful world of Attachment Parenting...

RINGSLING: SLING WITH RINGS
It is a long peice of cloth (regularly 80 inches long) with one end attached to a couple of rings, hence, RingSling. But it is not just a ring, it uses weld-free aluminum rings about 3 inches in diameter specially manufactured in the US for safe babywearing. It is not just any peice of cloth, it's fabric is lightweight but strong and pliable. Because of these rings, ringslings are super adjustable for any wearer's size, very helpful for my freakishly petite size where smallest standard sizes of baby carriers are still big and loose for me. Very adustable, so this is the sling that's meant to be shared,  to your family and friends, and neighbors, just about anybody. Sharing is love. And because of its adjustability, it can carry newborns, babies and toddlers (even petite pre-schoolers or for as long as your spine can manage) and in many positions. My toddler's favorite position is the hip carry, so he can see the world --and not just my breast bones and collar bones. And the ringsling is the only sling I used for wearing newborns using the front or "heart-to-heart" carry that is essential during the "4th Trimester" (yes, babies are born to be worn) it's as if baby is positioned like a fetus. Just so natural. Lovely.

BABYWEAR AND STAY FIT
Babywearing is a matter of personal preference and not everyone has the same taste. And some are not comfortable with any other carriers at all, perhaps those not yet toned enough for this "portable fitness gym" as I personally consider babywearing an on-the-go workout. So to those not that active, you can start a fitness activity (babywearing) now as you enter the fit and fab world of babywearing. A baby gear that burns mama-fats, watcha think?

(and even watched sine with them. hehe)

RING SLINGINGING IS EASY, REALLY
And  just as long as you babywear correctly, you will find that it is comfortable and easy, really. As long as the fabric is spread wide and evenly across your back and that it is properly worn around your shoulders (and not on your neck!), the baby is worn tight just right and all other tips, tricks and safety rules plus good old common sense, you are good to go. Any type of baby carrier is uncomfy if NOT used correctly. And just like anything else, practice makes perfect. And once you do learn, you can become a pro in no time.

ADVANCED BABYWEARING
There is more to just babywearing in ring slings. It is also the ultimate 2-in-1 "baby carrier/nursing cover" esp. for us, on-the-go breastfeeders. If not in use, it is lightweight and fits inside bags without the bulk, or you could just wear it on and let it glam up your get up. It is the ultimate baby gear that gives a fashion statement while serving its purpose. Here in the Philippines, it is not so known as families usually have nannies to carry and run after the kids or just let them sit on strollers. An ordinary Pinoy's initial impression for ringslinging would be limited to the natives, the badjao, or even beggars only. If you hashtag #ringslings and #babywearing on Instagram, most photos are from foreign countries. And you will admire their lovely photos. Even daddies look great (and super hot!) on it. And these are not just for the "badjaos", even celebrities use them. Even aliens.

SAORI's Instagram Shop
I sell what I love. So in my little online shop on Instagram, I am happy to introduce and recommend these hand-woven-with-love Ring Sling Baby Carriers for you to grab, learn, enjoy and love! My IG shop is named after my nickname SAORI, which also stands for SariSari, Art/ClayWorks, OnlineShop, RingSlings, Instagram. And this Japanese name, according to Google, is 'the art of weaving' in English. Coincidence? I call it destiny... There's more to just selling and marketing here. In my adventures in introducing these slings, I discovered women from around the country and the globe who also needs babywearing and we get to share our attachment parenting adventures together and realized how lucky we are to discover this genius idea (babywearing)!

HEART-WOVEN FABRIC
For the many carriers that I have tried, I fell in love with ring slings, particularly the hand woven ones, or also called "Inabel" in Ilocano. Inabel fabric is very special. Each peice of Inabel needs huge amount of effort, time, discipline, artistry to be produced as it is carefully 'heart' woven with love by indigenous women using a traditional or even an ancient craft (loom weaving or "abel" in Ilocano) that has been passed on from generation to generation using antique wooden looms (that look as antique as their weavers). I am also a crafter and clayist so I know how much love, sweat and blood is given to create every single masterpiece. And as a customer, it feels so good to know that a thing you are using has been handmade with love by real craftswomen.

CHOOSE PHILIPPINES
But sadly, this traditional art of weaving that was once a booming trade during the colonial era, has now been slowly dying as people stopped using hand-woven fabrics when modern machine-made fabrics came into the market. But still, some of us know that nothing beats the quality and comfort that the hand woven fabric gives so this is why we still have these baby carriers (it's also great as a wrap carrier) in Inabel. Fashion designers now utilize and introduce these woven products into the global fashion world to support local and Filipino weavers. But you don't have to be a couturier or a supermodel to show support. As you purchase these woven ringslings, you also directly support the livelihood of indigenous weaving moms, promote  proudly pinoy products and protect a beautiful traditional craft. That's a whole lot of love!

WOVEN SLING IS THE THING
Another thing that makes woven fabric special is that it is purposely woven to carry babies, made from natural fibers from plants that the natives have grown and fabrics are not harshly treated with chemicals and dyes. It is also surprisingly not warm to wear even in our tropical country but it also has the capability to give comfort during chilly temperatures. The ancient tradition of the diagonal weave on the looms gives a pliable fabric – extremely strong, yet very soft. The sling is rigid horizontally and vertically meaning, it holds the baby securely and safely, but allows movement within the wrap diagonally, allowing the baby and wearer maximum comfort, making it THE thing for babywearing, not to mention the beautiful eye-catching colors and designs that would surely rock your slinging!

BABYWEARING = ATTACHMENT PARENTING = LOVE
Nothing beats a parent's love, esp. during a human beings' most critical time to build a foundation, the first few years. So for as long as you still (anyway, it ain't gonna be forever, darling) can hold and carry your little ones, do it-- without limit. IT IS LOVE. And we can't wait to see a future full of people who are loved. I am happy to influence moms to babywear, almost all of them are into it now. We all know that babies are born to be worn. And I'm glad that more and more wearers can now affordably avail the goodness of premium hand woven slings and I hope that you too can enjoy ring slingin' as much as we do and be surprised with the benefits of babywearing and the many wonders that attachment parenting could bring to this world! ❤

Sincerely,
❤  Saori

GOOD TO KNOW...

BABYWEARING:

RING SLINGS:

THE RINGS:

What are the Rings made of? What's the weight LIMIT?

Our Ring Slings use light weight but very strong aluminium rings that have been passed through test standards and proven to be very safe for use:

  • The rings are done especially for use in baby slings, and are made of smooth, strong, safe and weld-free aluminum, which are thoroughly tested by mommy Sao and family and babywearing enthusiasts.
  • As babies find the rings irresistible to chew on, the manufacturers (Made in US) have ensured that the rings are carefully smoothed out and use non-toxic materials.
  • Colors of the rings (silver or gold) are anodized onto the aluminum rings -- it becomes part of the metal, and will not chip off or lose its color with time.
  • Ring slings can be used from newborn onwards to a maximum weight of 15kg (about 3.5 years old for an average size boy) depending on your child's built and also the wearer’s carrying (or spine’s) capacity.

Why WELD-FREE? Why not METAL?

Because these are NOT just an ordinary hardware metal rings, or for that matter, those available at your local bookstore. WHY? Because WELDED METAL RINGS have the following PROBLEMS:
  • Welded rings can break at their weld point because of the special kind of pressure babywearing puts on it.
  • The weld point can have rough edges that rub against the fabric and weaken it.
  • The metal rings are very slippery (they're metal, and they're shiny) and the fabric can slip through it more easily especially with large rings and lightweight fabrics.
  • Aluminum do not retain heat and cannot burn a baby. Have you tried touching any metal or coins left inside a vehicle parked outside a hot day? Ouch!
  • The metal rings are MUCH heavier and are more uncomfortable than "lightweight" aluminum. You are already walking around with all that baby weight, you might want a lighter ring sling.

  LEARNING THE RING SLING

How to thread ring slings? How do I wear my baby in the ring sling?
(these are provided in the PRINTED GUIDE that comes along with SAORI_PH's customers' package)

How do I get comfortable with my ring sling?
If you feel any discomfort and pain with ringslinging, you simply might not be doing it right. It's okay, I've been there too, all beginners do. It will work, even for someone who has abnormal spine curve (I'm lordotic, a cousin of scoliosis), just with proper techniques, we can get comfortable with our ring slings. Especially for beginners, you need to check out and APPLY these 8 TIPS FOR GETTING COMFORTABLE IN YOUR RING SLING <--CLICK THAT! The following tips are just a summary so you must check out the site to visualize how it's done, the photos for each tip are awesome!

Tip 1: Make sure you are wearing the ring sling as high and snug as possible, with baby’s head at the level of your upper chest.
Tip 2: Check the tension and position of the top rail for the ring sling, for both safety and comfort.
Tip 3: Keep the fabric of the ring sling spread around the rings to make tightening easy.
Tip 4:  Center the fabric of the ring sling over your shoulder.
Tip  5: Spread the ring sling fabric widely and evenly across your back.
Tip 6: Check your baby’s leg position.
Tip 7: Get the ring sling on your body and tightened as much as possible before putting the baby in the sling.
Tip 8: Take baby’s weight off the sling when you want to make big adjustments to the fit or position.
Bonus Tip: Wrap the tail around the rings for a sleeker, more minimalist look (great tip for dads, too).

Can I learn it too?
With the flexibility of the ring slings also comes with it a little more complexity in terms of learning how to use it. So practice well. Skilled baby ring sling users can put a baby or toddler in and out of a ring sling in split of a second. Many have done it, so can you.  With the ring sling, you do not need to learn all the different carrying styles to carry your child safely. Often, just one or two carry positions are sufficient.

CARE INSTRUCTION:

- Machine (wash separately) or hand-wash whenever needed.
- Just use very little and mild detergent, slings are in contact with baby's delicate skin.
- Tumble dry on low or no heat or just air dry.
- And it is always a good idea when washing your carrier for the first time to include a dye catcher sheet with dark colors to catch any excess dye that may be present. If you couldn't find one, try getting them from the laundry shop or you could try using old cotton t-shirt.
- Wash in cold water to preserve the colors. And I have a little ritual which applies to all brand new colored clothes and fabric that I bought. I soak clothes in vinegar for about 30 minutes, then normal wash (before wearing first time). This should make colors stay extra long.
- To reduce the clanking sound of the aluminium rings against the washing machine wall, put it in a large lingerie bag or pillow case and then line dry.
- You CAN machine dry but the colors will stay brighter and more vibrant if you line dry.
- Our woven fabric dries fast (1 hour if machine dried, 2-4 hours if line dried, depending gon the sun).
- You may iron your sling after washing, to make the rails easier to adjust.

BABY CARRIERS:

Why not buy cheap buckle carriers?

Yes, there are those cheap buckled harnesses below P1,000 but they are not BabyWearing-recommended carriers, they can cause hip damage, spinal injuries and total discomfort for both the baby and wearer. The Ringslings, however, helps Promote Babywearing / Attachment Parenting and Support Breastfeeding (in a Ring Sling, you can BF discreetly in public or even while walking on the go).

DID YOU KNOW?  that there are CHEAP or POORLY-DESIGNED baby carriers in the stores can DAMAGE your baby's HIPS or LEGS? And they obviously cause so much hassle and stress on the parents/carrier's part (they are NOT TIGHT so the babies wiggle their bodies and legs dangle by the crotch -- just plain USELESS coz you can't go HANDS-FREE.) Please wisely choose BABYWEARING-RECOMMENDED carriers (e.g.: Ring Slings, Wraps, Ergonomic carriers, etc.) and see the BIG difference. Be well-informed.

Is the ring sling safe to be used even on a newborn? How about toddlers?
Yes of course it is, for as long as you adhere to the safety measures, and of course to use some common sense too. In fact, as for our own experience, ring slings are the best  baby carriers during the newborn and early months, the only carrier I have used for newborns (the "heart-to-heart" carry, love it!). The tail gives added support for drizzles, smoke, breastfeeding cover, etc. And when they become bigger babies, it’s the best for our fave carry position, the Hip Carry (which is also most kid’s fave position, coz they can see the world, and not our sternum or chest, and collar bones). It is safe, even safer than your tired/strained arms alone or a bulky stroller. It is safe, of course provided that you follow and keep in mind and heart the BABYWEARING SAFETY RULES:

My baby hates the sling! What should I do?
My baby did that too, with all the other types of baby carriers. But eventually he loved babywearing so much within the first few minutes of our amazing babywearing experience. All of us need some time to get used with the sling (sanayan lang yan). Try walking, talking, distracting and bouncing while you're putting your baby into the sling. You can walk around, they will love it. We believe all babies are born to be worn.

Remember, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.
Happy babywearing! :)
